Why Doesnt Black People Hair Flow Like White People hair?

I'm black, and other black females will identify with me when they have experienced this problem..whenever I take my hair out of a ponytail or bun, It doesnt Fall down, or flow down into place like White People's hair would. My hair just sticks up in the place where I had tied it to...

Why is this? Serious answers only please. Thanks! Why Doesnt Black People Hair Flow Like White People hair?
Every race's hair and skin has developed differently over the many years that people have been on the earth. It is basically that each race is different, and people from African decent have more coarse hair than people of European decent. Your hair is naturally resistant and produces a much lower amount of natural oils (which has quite a bit to do with it). Those are just the genetics of race. Why Doesnt Black People Hair Flow Like White People hair?
I'd just like to say that I know people from all different types of races, and they all have different hair. Not all white women have hair that flows down, and not all black women have hair that sticks up in the place where they tie it to. It has to do with genetics and your ancestory. You just happen to be born with hair that doesn't flow down. If it bothers you, try a gentle relaxer for your hair that won't damage it. Also, a good conditioner helps too. Just know that everyone is different and as much as we all would like different hair, its just the way we were made. So embrace your hair the way it is :)

Hope I helped!

*there's no point in giving everyones answer a thumbs down just because you disagree or are upset...go right ahead :)
Because it is more coarse, pull out a strand of your own and then one of your white girlfreinds and look at it. White people with curly hair will not have as much ';flow'; as straight haired white girls. It just be that way. I have curly hair and get nappies at the base of my neck where as my sister has straight hair and can't get curl to even stay in her hair without a perm or tons of hair product in it. I have to use straight irons and lots of hair product to have it straight and don't let it be humid else it would be useless. So rainy season I have to wear the curley look. It just be that way.
different genetics.. that simple.. and honestly, come on, i'm white.. but my mixed heritage my hair is coarse also and it so doesn't flow like ';white folks'; hair.

ah hem.

hair is of many textures... i've seen some african americans with rather fine hair actually, moreso than my own.. it depends on the genetic makeup technically.
I guess being that blacks and whites originated in different places, they adapted to their different surroundings, causing white people's hair to be thinner and flexible while black people's hair is less flexible.
Geez, these people are so mean. They have problems, not you. Black people have coarser hair and not many oil glands so their hair is dry. The more moist it is, the more it will flow.
I do not know why but because of genes. Love your hair the way it is. My friend wants to be black and she is the whitest person ever. She loves black people. She thinks black people are so beautifull each one!
Because black people hair is different from white people hair. You know this already.
I agree with blackcat (undercover lhcf member) hair that has grease in it is stiff. Also your hair might be damaged or dry, that also can lead to stiffness. with the right knowlege your hair can flow too.
Stop hating yourself and go see a counselor about your low self-esteem.
just different textures. thats all
it is better than white peoples
It's really not about the race (some might beg to differ, I'll explain as I go) as its about the hair structure itself. Overly curly (spiral type under a microscope) hair requires a different method and madness in which to process and dress with products. Naturally straight hair, in the same right...is also treated in its own seperate manner. Overly curly hair, when ';Permed'; is actually ';straightened'; with a harsh chemical and processsed without rollers, and combed, rubbed...in the down direction to get the ';straight'; look. At this point, you have destroyed the Poly-Peptide Bond in the hair....you pulled all the spiral type curl out. Being that Overly curly hair is ALWAYS very dry (as a rule of thumb, this is why it breaks) we must keep products in it to keep it moist and ';fixed'; hence...it really wont flow, unless you want to get extensions. My daughter being mixed, white/mexican her hair is Overly Curly and I had to ';Perm'; her hair straight, it flows somewhat...but not like she'd like and she still has to use a flat iron everyday. The difference with straight hair, when you ';perm'; straight hair, you are using rollers to make their hair curly by using a harsh chemical...and under a microscope you can see that the hair is flat, no spiral, so it is not as fragile and needs less moisture. Once you ';perm'; hair that is straight, you have destroyed the Poly-Peptide Bond and that hair will never become straight again, it will have ';new growth'; that is straight, as Over Curly new growth...yada yada. Straight hair that has been ';permed'; does not flow as it once did when it was straight.

If you only use heat to press your hair, and you do not ';perm'; your hair, you'll find that it it will grow longer, it will be stronger and you can get more flow...but never forget to keep your scalp moist :)~ Hope that helps! Peace :)~
Too much grease can make it stay in place. Try using a natural oil instead of grease. I didn't really have this problem with my relaxed hair, and I definitely don't have it with my natural hair. The difference, cutting down/out on that nasty @ss grease.

Many people have given you a good explanations and reasons why blacks and whites hair ';behave'; differently. There's nothing wrong with hair that does not naturally ';flow,'; and everyone's hair isn't supposed to do this, and this doesn't mean there's something bad or wrong with Afro or relaxed hair because it doesn't behave like white hair; it's just different, that's all. You can't compare your hair to a hair of a completely different hair type and texture because that's comparing apples to oranges. You have to work within your hair's type and texture just like they have to work within theirs and stop comparing hair that's completely different.

Asking the question isn't the problem, but it's the reasons behind asking which makes it seem like you wish you had white people's hair because you think theirs is better and blacks hair is ugly - you know, self hate. All the blacks have already said what I think, so I won't inflame the situation further.
well i am white lol, and when i take my hair out of a ponytail it has a crazy ugly crimp from the band lol, it doesn't flow like commercial girl either, but id say the major contributor to this is hair thickness,African americans have much thicker hair than per say caucasians, same with hispanics and some asian ethnicity's.
I think it's because the hair is so thick. I can relate because Asian people have thick hair too. Whenever I wear a hat, my hair will go up because it doesn't know whether to go front or back. Most white people have thinner hair so their hair just falls all over the place.
Because the texture is differently.

Just like asians hair is much different.

No, your hair may not flow. but there's good and bad to

all types of hair.
different genes girl...quit trippin..your not white..ur not asian...Deal with it..Accept it...There eyes are blue and stuff...Urs are not without contacts. Its ok you bald head skallywag. Aint got no hair in back. If i pulled your hair during sex you would look like a cancer patient.
dumbest question I've ever read... you're ancestors' heads were burned by Africa's sunlight... hence your curls... sorry, you can't change it... if you had higher self-esteem that shouldn't be an issue and men would be crazy for your hair's stillness...
White peoples hair doesn't do that either. Only very limp and fine hair does that. Whenever I take my hair out of a bun or pony tail it has bumps where the band was. It doesn't just all down and flow into place.
Blacks and whites evolved in different climates. N e g r o i d hair diffuses heat, while caucasoid hair conserves it.
Your genes explain that. Black people have thinner drier hair because of genetics. It's nothing you can really help.
it's because your hair has a coarse texture

if you use tresemme sleek then it'll get smoother (be sure to use the conditioner too)
Well, the real question here is why doesnt white people hair flow like black people hair... don't you think?
Im black and my hair flows down when i take it out of a ponytail....
Because black hair is coarser and there are fewer oil glands on the scalp.
different genes...
Nappy weave, that's why.
why you hating
Why don't you just give them another reason to talk about you! Stupid!
