What was the black people hair styles in the 80's?

Wow!! I definitely have to think back on this one. Some of the popular hairstyles in the 80's for African Americans included the Jerry Curl, the High-top Fade (like 5-6 inches high), Fades with a design on the back or the side of the head, Ducktails (a small patch of hair left the back of the head), Basketweaves (girls hair braided in the form of a basket in front of their heads), Feathered Bangs, the Reverse Bob (where one side was cut short and the other side was about shoulders length), and long ';Dookey'; Braids (braids women wore that where very very very thick). What was the black people hair styles in the 80's?
Afros, Jerry Curls, fades, and finger waves! What was the black people hair styles in the 80's?
Not nearly as cool as the Afros of the 70's
70's had the afro. 80's had jheri curls, dookie braids.
Shut yo mouth neeguh I wuff mai beoald head.... Oh wait that's the 2000's.

In the 80's it must have been 'Word up my soul brother' with a giant afro.
The 70's had huge afros.

By the 80's, there were dreadlocks and greased curls (think Rick James).
Wasn't that the ';Afro';? Then they started ';The Do's'; like they wear now pretty much.
Lots of braids and beads or chemically straightened hair. No afros - the style was to try and hide the ';black'; hair by keeping it under wraps.
jherri curls, hi-top fades w/ duck tails.

big hair was big for women as well, bangs
Afros.
indiana jones hats lol
AFROS MAN AFROS
It was definately NOT afro's. Afros ended in the late 70s and were replaced by the curls. I know this becuase I had one until 2000. in the 80s people told me to get a jerry curl then they (fro's) came back in the 90s. jerry curls in the early 80s then in the late 80s flat top. also the shag and short hair for men with Vs in the back and parts. Butters, small waves. The same for women. there are always standards like short hair, braids... then there is some new stuff too...
they had BIG afros!
The hi top box! For men, and some women, at least. SOmetimes they'd wear a hair pic or a comb in it.
It was afros Ma brother..

Tha biggest hair in town got the free pimp..
Jeri curls, weaves %26amp; braids.
Biiiiigggg afros my man.
Maybe afro's? XD
';the_lips'; must have been BORN in the 80's because afros went out in the 70s, you dork. And if that was intended to be a ';racist'; comment, shame on you for even opening your friggin' mouth.

Then again, it would have been better if afros were in, because it was (cringe, gasp) those horrible, dripping, sweet-smelling Jheri curls that were all the rage back then. Yuck. Relaxed hair was getting popular, some chicks were still rocking cornrows, French braids, but mostly for dudes, it was either tall, boxy close-cropped ';fades'; or for chicks, it was springy set curls.

Yep. Those were happening times, ';the _lips';. You should have been there.
huge natural afro.
Afros died in the 70s.

In the early 80's it we wore something called a shag. (a mullet for black men) Some processed their hair. (as you can see, Al Sharpton still does!)

The mid 80s we wore closely cut afros called ';naturals'; or ';half-fros';

The end of the 80s started the ';fade'; era, which is close on the sides (sometimes to the skin) and faded upward to a close crop.
jerry curl jerry curl!! afro and uh cornrows?? i dunno. i wasn't born in the 80s!!!!
in the early '80's, afros were the thing. After those lost their appeal, many black people would straighten or perm their hair. Some would oil it down with Jeri Curl. Yuck. By the late '80's you'd see lifts and fades on guys and curly bangs on girls. Think MC Hammer and Salt n Pepa or the Cosby show...
I think it was basicly afros
Dreads
pressed hair . You know like with a pressing comb and tight curls at the end. Buns and jerry curls. that what my aunts hair looks like in all the picturesof her holding me as a baby. She was really stylin and profilin.
